One of those decisions that both wrenches my gut and lightens the load on my shoulders [Oct. 13th, 2007|02:48 am] [ Tags | exchanges, rant ] So, it's just under a month until my merry_smutmas fic is due. It's two weeks until my exams start, which means I need to get my hardcore study on as of now. My exams don't finish until Smutmas is due. My Smutmas fic hates me, and is only at this stage half-finished. Considering that 'half-finished' is well and truly into the tens of thousands of words stage, 'finished' is seeming less and less attainable. So after about 10 separate posts about the nightmare that is my Smutmas fic, I've made a heartbreaking (but not wholly unexpected, I think) decision. The 25,000 or so words that I've written? Can f*** the hell off for a while. What's written is okay, but it's not brilliant, and it's not quite what I envisioned. I know that eventually I can fix it so that it does fit. In order for the fic to work, though, it needs two things: (1) For me to gain a few months of distance from it so I can actually go back and do the ridiculous amount of editing I want to do; and (2) To be written as a pre-slash, or at least a slash without smut. Neither of these conditions are conducive to it being submitted as my Smutmas fic. Thus, it's being put on the backburner. Not scrapped - I think I would have to seriously go bang my head against something until I passed out if this fic never got posted, after all the blood, sweat and tears I've already put into it - but it won't be seen for a while. So in order for me to pass my exams, meet the requirements of the fic request and not go totally insane, I'm now writing a fic for one of the other requested pairings. This fic will be much shorter, much more smut-friendly and easier to cater to the kinks my requestor wrote down. I think, therefore, that this is a good move all around, as much as it hurts to do it. I've already made a decent start on the fic, and I quite honestly can't wait to write the pr0n (which is not usual for me). It's still going to be tight, getting this and my other fics in on time, but it's at least possible to do without criminally neglecting my study. My harry_holidays fic has also been totally pwned. And yet my merry_smutmas fic so does not want me to write it. I don't know what I'm going to do if I don't have a full draft of it written by the end of the week. Half of the remaining month before it's due is taken up by exams, and the other half really should be taken up by studying for those exams. Since, you know, university will get me a paying job, while fandom will only get me insane. Why oh why does my muse think it's funny to give me a long and difficult plot to write? NOTE: This is only secondary to whatever I write in actual requests, as I often somewhat specifically cater requests to the type of fic I'd like to receive in a given fest. Favourite Pairings: Slash: Snape/Harry, Harry/Draco, Lucius/Harry, Harry/Neville, Harry/Zacharias, Harry/Cedric, James(Senior)/Harry, Harry/Tom(Voldemort), Neville/Snape, Harry/Remus, Harry/Sirius, Percy/Remus, Percy/Neville, Harry/Percy, Harry/Charlie, Harry/Bill, Remus/Bill. And many more, of course, but I only really have the room and the patience for my absolute favourites. I'm generally not a huge fan of the females in the Potter universe, so het and femmeslash are not always my cup of tea except when they're kept mainly in the background. However, I do sometimes crave some girl action, so I'll include them anyway. Het: Bill/Fleur, Luna/anyone (particularly Harry and/or Neville), Remus/McGonagall, Snape/Lily (but for the love of god, not Snape/Lily fluff). Femmeslash: Again, Luna/anyone. No, computer, you do NOT know what's best for me [Sep. 12th, 2007|12:15 am] [ Tags | exchanges, rant ] [ My mood is swinging toward ... | aggravated ] "Het will rot your brain," says my computer. "Here, let me save you from that tragic fate." All right, on one hand, I kind of need all the brain cells I can get with uni kicking my arse around the country and back as of late. However, that really doesn't give my computer permission to scramble almost beyond recognition the only fic (okay, ficlet, which was Harry/Hermione OMGWTFBBQ!) I've found time to write since DH. If I wanted a document half-filled with weird squares instead of het porn, I'm quite capable of doing that myself. And since I don't think I say this nearly as much as it deserves: MS Word, I hate you. No love at all. So when will I either go back and rewrite what my computer ate or write a completely different fic? Search me. I have a week of glorious holiday coming up, but I imagine that I'll spend most of that time writing fics for all those fests I've signed up for that won't make their appearances until 'tis the season to be jolly. At the very least, though, I claimed a prompt for snape_after_dh, so you can expect a fic mid-October. Which really doesn't seem very far away at all, to me. Time flies when you're not having fun. Okay, so it's a little baby bunny that may yet bloom into the feral rabbit from hell, but it's a bunny nonetheless. I like it so far. *pets bunny* Also, (this may or may not have to do with the above paragraph; I'm not telling) can anyone give me a link to a compiled list of everyone who died in DH? Yes, I want a death count. Morbid, right? But I swear I missed half the deaths as I was reading the first time, and I've yet to find time to get around to reading the book again. It's not that I really want characters to have died without more than a passing mention that they were now numbered among the pile of corpses, but it'd make it a hell of a lot easier for me if one or two of them were dead by the end of DH. Apparently I asked for Remus/Mundungus as a gift. And someone actually wrote it. Who'da thunk it? [Aug. 25th, 2007|07:17 pm] [ Tags | exchanges, mundungus fletcher, recs, remus lupin, slash ] Completely hilarious and borderline grotesque Remus/Mundungus fic? For me? Why yes, I'd be delighted. I was just stunned at the sure knowledge that I'm not the only person to have ever written this pairing. And happy. So happy. Because I think that any writer who dares to take on Mundungus, of all people, realistically in a sexual situation must both really care about giving their recipient the gift they want and ... well, and have real effing guts, to be quite frank. Also, I'm squeeful on my mystery author's behalf that I'm by far not the only person to give a favourable review. It's always a worry that people won't read fics with pairings like this, especially when they warn for dirty old man sex. ;-) The hp_springsmut exchange may have been all over the place in posting due to the LJ debacle, and I may have had trouble getting my own submission done, but this totally made it all worth it. The holidays aren't here for a while yet, but for the next few weeks it'll feel like they are [Aug. 19th, 2007|02:52 am] [ Tags | exchanges, random ] In none bunny-related news, I'm reminded just now that I signed up (to be in the lottery) for merry_smutmas. Yay me (and the other 170-odd people who've signed up thus far, and any extras who will sign up over the next six hours or so before gmth calls a halt. I've got my fingers crossed that I'll be one of the lucky few people without a reserved spot who'll be picked out to participate. I love Smutmas. I live for Smutmas perhaps even more than I live for Christmas itself. After all, that only lasts one day. Smutmas goes over the whole month. Having said that, if I don't get picked (which is pretty likely, since the odds are not in my favour and my luck leaves a lot to be desired), will someone poke me on 21 August to remind me that the snarry_holidays submissions are opening up? I won't sign up for it if I'm doing Smutmas, but otherwise I'm game. The only trouble is that by then all the pimping posts will have ended and I'll have forgotten about it.
